Macbeth is a portrait of humanity drowning in its own obsessions, leading to isolation and psychological pain. It is the loss of any chance to listen. Voices and sounds emerge from the Scottish mist on a night that will never end, for Macbeth has killed sleep.
Then this voice spoke to me from within my chest: “You will have only tears for pillows, O Macbeth!” You killed sleep forever, Glamis! There is nothing but vigilance, Caudore, for you!
